Sri Shiva Sahasranama Sthothram – Rudrayamala Thanthram – Lyrics and meanings 1 – 10

I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who dwells in the middle of Suryamandala, he is Sambam/Shambu, he is the cure for the miseries and sufferings of Samsara, he has bluish throat, and he have unique kind of eyes/Virupaksha.

|| Nyasa: ||

Sri Shivasahasranama Sthothra is highly auspicious hymns composed by  Rishi Shambhu, it has Anushtup as meter, it has Paramathma Sri Sadhashiva as presiding deity, Maheshvara as Beejam, Gauri as Shakthi, Mahesha Sarvairithi as  Keelakam, it is recited to please Lord  Sri Sambasadhashiva.

Ishall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is the Lord of Goddess Sri Parvathi, he is serene and seated on the lotus flower, he is decked in magnificent crown decorated with the crescent moon, he has five eyes and three eyes on each, he is wielded in Shoolam, Vajram, Khadgam, Parashu and one hand in Abhayahastha posture, and weapons like Nagam, Pasham, Ghantam, Damaru, Angusham, on left hand and one hand in Varada posture, he is decked in various precious ornaments all over his body, he is decorated in garlands and crystal beads too.


I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Hara who is personified as Rudra, who is golden armed, he is valorous, he is a great warrior, and he is the Lord of directions, he has reddish brown colored matted hair locks, he is the Lord of animals, he is mighty Lord Mrida, he has  brownish complexion, he is eminent, he is Paramathma who is eternal, he is the source of living beings and carries out the function of Universe, he is personified as Nandikeshvara, he is Maharudra, he guides us to safely cross the unfathomable ocean of Samsara, he is Sureshvara/Lord of Lords, he is decked in serpents across the chest as Upaveetham, he eradicates sorrows and miseries of the worshiper, he dwells in sacred shrines and dense woods, he represents antelope, architect, charioteer, business, kings men etc.. he symbolizes sacred trees, he graciously accepts oblations from fire sacrifices, he resides in celestial abode and Earth as well, he is accompanied by spirits, he has boisterous voice, he has fierce form, he carries spear with sharp edges/Pattisha, he eradicates the shackles of worldly bondage of worshiper, he is the superior medicine for incurable illnesses, he have five faces, he has dreadful form, he symbolizes victory and verily, he is break through and remains harmless and serene,  he can be harmful, he represents space/region, great warrior, he protects  his worshiper from thieves, he symbolizes sacred hymns and texts, he is personified as leader of theif who lures the heart of worshiper, he is the Lord of dense woods, he is personified as sincere servant, he protects from thieves, he is the Lord of distressed people, he dwells in mountain peaks and he happily dwells in caves, he is supreme Lord Shiva/Bhava/Sharva, he is Neelakanda who has bluish throat, he is Kapardhin who has beautiful matted hair locks, he is Thripuranthaka who is the destroyer of demons of Thripura, he appears with dishevelled hair, he is Girisha who is the Lord of Mountains, he has thousands of  eyes and feet, he is Shipivishta/shaven head, he is Chandramouli who is decked in crescent moon on matted hair locks, he is sinless, he has dwarf form as Vamana, he is omnipresent, he carries trident, he is primordial, he has miniscule form too, he has the appearance with colossal fire, he is foremost, he has embodied as celestial bull, he  is supreme Lord who is the purifier of souls.
